      展会报告(Show Reports):

      Strong response to the leading trade fair for the hotel and gastronomy business in Stuttgart | IKA/Culinary Olympics with culinary highlights

      After a four-year break, the time was long overdue for a new edition of INTERGASTRA, the leading trade fair for the hotel and gastronomy business, where the world of hospitality meets. The main focal points were discussions with colleagues, learning from one another and growing together. Fresh ideas and new concepts for the hospitality industry were presented to the 88,000 visitors from 98 countries between 3 and 7 February. The visitors discussed these ideas and concepts, and found that they were forward-looking.

      Industry shows its ambition and open-mindedness

      In the different themed halls at INTERGASTRA more than 1,300 exhibitors, including well-known companies and young start-ups, presented their products and solutions for the current challenges in the hotel, restaurant and catering industries. INTERGASTRA was divided into the following topic areas: "Furnishing & Tableware", "Digital Solutions, Services & IT", "Beverages", "Outdoor Gastronomy", "Coffee, Confectionery & Vending", "Kitchen Systems", "Food", "Associations & Organisations", and "Gelato". INTERGASTRA established new key areas this year with FOKUS VENDING, which was designed and implemented with the support of the Federal Association of the German Vending Machine Industry (BDV), and the hall for digital solutions. In addition to the companies' exhibits, the trade fair featured an extensive accompanying programme with panel discussions, talks, seminars, workshops and various competitions. There was a welcome return with the new edition of CHEF-SACHE, which was curated by freakstotable and the Association of German Young Restaurateurs (JRE), and was staged on two days of the trade fair together with a cooking competition featuring JRE stars and food influencers.

      The gelato trade fair GELATISSIMO, which was staged as usual concurrently with INTERGASTRA, also made an impression with interesting live workshops featuring the best gelatieri and master ice-cream makers in Europe, as well as exciting competitions such as the Grand Prix GELATISSIMO and Intercoppa. Angelika Szaban won the Coppa GELATISSIMO while Cornelia Chila came out on top in the Intercoppa competition.

      Presentation of Olympic gold

      The IKA/Culinary Olympics celebrated its 26th edition for the second time concurrently with INTERGASTRA. The German Chefs' Association (VKD), the organiser of the largest and oldest international exhibition for culinary skills, also wants to continue this cooperation. "Four days, more than 1,200 participants from 55 countries and over 7,000 menus: the IKA/Culinary Olympics are a fantastic cooking competition and this event with its long tradition was a great success," said VKD President Daniel Schade. "The atmosphere was exciting and special right from the start. We received very positive feedback from the chefs, fans and guests. We are proud about that." He congratulated the winners of the Culinary Olympics. "Every participant attained fantastic achievements and showed what real culinary skills look like," said Schade. "We would like to thank all the chefs for coming to Stuttgart and are already looking forward to coming back in 2028 to the 27th IKA/Culinary Olympics which will be staged again in Stuttgart concurrently with INTERGASTRA. "Until then, the team from Finland can carry the title of Olympic Champion in the National Teams Category. The team from Sweden defended its title in the Junior National Teams Category while two gold medals were presented in the Community Catering Category to the "Compass Group Culinary Team" from Finland and the "Swiss Armed Forces Culinary Team / SACT" from Switzerland. The gold medal for "cold culinary skills" in the Culinary Art & Pastry Art Category was presented to the regional team "PaisWorld Culinary Team Korea" from South Korea. The German teams ended in 9th place in the National Teams Category and 5th place in the Junior National Teams Category.

      "We not only maintained the position as the leading trade fair for the hotel and gastronomy business, we also extended it. There is much greater interest both at a national and an international level," said Stefan Lohnert, President of Messe Stuttgart. Since INTERGASTRA, GELATISSIMO and the IKA/Culinary Olympics were staged concurrently, all trade visitors had an outstanding opportunity to obtain extensive insights into international trends in the industry over a period of five days. "We certainly fulfilled our objective to raise the two large events to the next level in cooperation with the German Chefs' Association as the organiser of the IKA/Culinary Olympics and the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA) as the promotional supporter of the trade fair," said Stefan Lohnert.

      Positive response to INTERGASTRA 2024

      The Baden-Württemberg branch of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA) has been supporting INTERGASTRA for more than 50 years. "The success of INTERGASTRA is an encouraging signal for the hotel and restaurant industry in Germany. The trade fair showed that the industry is looking to the future despite the difficult economic situation: thanks to the large number of exhibitors, entrepreneurs were able to discover numerous innovative solutions which will help companies to work more successfully. However, INTERGASTRA also included ideas and concepts for adapting hotel and restaurant services to current trends and market developments. The visitors to the trade fair made intensive use of this specialist input and the opportunity for discussions among industry professionals," said Fritz Engelhardt, Chairman of the Baden-Württemberg branch of the German Hotel and Restaurant Association (DEHOGA).

      Klaus Vollmer, Master of the Baden-Württemberg Regional Association of Confectioners' Guilds, concurred with these positive conclusions: "The trade fair was again a total success both for us and the extremely interested visitors. The joint exhibition hall for the key topics of confectionery and coffee is both a proven and a successful combination. The inclusion of the vending section in the joint hall this year was a valuable addition," said Vollmer. He was also impressed by the industry's determination in regard to digital transformation.

      The next INTERGASTRA will be held together with GELATISSIMO from 7 to 11 February 2026.
